How do plants effect water? Vegetaion effects our environment in many different ways from the air we breathe, the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and the water we drink. Save The Swales! A very common practice of landowners is to remove most of the vegetation from the banks of rivers and streams. The result is a loss of roots that form a matrix to hold the banks in place. The banks begin to erode and landowners are losing land at an alarming rate. Stablilize streambanks using vegetation is called Soil Bioengineering.
