How do plants effect water?
Vegetaion effects our environment in many different ways from the air we breathe, the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and the water we drink. Save The Swales! Go to the Map button to see Knox County tree cover.
Streambanks can become very unstable when alterations in the watershed occur. A very common practice of landowners is to remove most of the vegetation from the banks of rivers and streams. The result is a loss of roots that form a matrix to hold the banks in place. The banks begin to erode and landowners are losing land at an alarming rate. Stablilize streambanks using vegetation is called Soil Bioengineering. The Water Quality Forum has a program to address streambank erosion click here to find out more about the program. The program uses native vegetation in its projects to find what native plants are best for your site click on Native Plant Selector link which will take you to TVA's website.
