A very common practice of landowners is to remove most of the vegetation from the banks of rivers and streams. The result is a loss of roots that form a matrix to hold the banks in place. The banks begin to erode and landowners are losing land at an alarming rate. Stablilize streambanks using vegetation is called Soil Bioengineering.
